HISTORIC AND REALISTIC FICTION

Realistic fiction is imaginative writing that accurately reflects life as it was lived in the past or as it could be lived today. It is either Historical Fiction (of the past), or Contemporary Realistic Fiction (of the present).

Contemporary Realistic Fiction is consistent with the lives of real people in our modern world. This does not mean the story is true, however. Plots focus mainly on familiar, everyday problems, pleasures and personal relationships. These characters, plots, and settings are believable and grounded in the familiar. Historical fiction consists of realistic stories that are set in the past in order to be authentic.
